Where it came from
Deka Chibi Noppo is a character originating from the long-running NHK educational program 'Dekirukana,' which aired from 1970 to 1990. The series featured the non-verbal protagonist Noppo-san and his puppet companion, Gonta-kun, who engaged in complex craft projects to teach viewers the joy of creation. The character serves as an iconic cultural touchstone in Japan, representing the transition of public broadcasting toward interactive and creative children's programming.
The design of Deka Chibi Noppo merchandise is rooted in the minimalist, expressive aesthetic developed for the show's puppet cast. While the original puppets were designed for television studio environments, these collectible figures were created to translate the tactile charm of the show into a tangible item for fans. They were generally received as nostalgic keepsakes that preserve the legacy of NHK's influential instructional format.
