Where it came from
Devour Eternity, or Tunshi Xingkong, is a prominent Chinese original net animation (ONA) series produced by the streaming platform iQIYI. Launched to adapt the popular web novel of the same name by I Eat Tomatoes, the series is set in a post-apocalyptic future where Earth has undergone a radical transformation, forcing humanity to evolve and combat mutated beasts. The production reflects a broader push by iQIYI to dominate the domestic animation market by leveraging successful intellectual property from the web literature sector, aiming to replicate the success of other high-budget donghua productions.
The animation is characterized by its high-fidelity 3D modeling and dynamic combat sequences, which are intended to showcase the technical capabilities of contemporary Chinese animation studios. Designed to appeal to a demographic familiar with xianxia and science fiction tropes, the series prioritizes elaborate world-building and character progression. Since its debut, the series has received positive recognition for its visual spectacle and remains a cornerstone of iQIYI's portfolio, playing a critical role in the growth of the platform's long-form animated content strategy.
