Clouds flow by. Pictures evaporate. When the act of drawing is in tune with nature’s ways, an ancient poetry echoes through the sky and in due time brings rain.

Where it came from
Dissipate was produced by Geidai Animation, the renowned animation program at Tokyo University of the Arts, as a showcase of the institution's commitment to experimental storytelling and traditional craft. The film emerged from a pedagogical environment designed to challenge conventional Japanese animation tropes, focusing instead on minimalist aesthetic choices and atmospheric narrative structures that prioritize visual metaphors over dialogue.
The film is a hallmark of the studio's focus on hand-drawn techniques and unconventional frame pacing, reflecting the collective influence of faculty members and emerging animators within the Geidai department. Upon its release, it was lauded within independent animation circuits for its evocative use of negative space and fluid transitions, cementing its status as a significant piece of academic animation that emphasizes the artistic intent of the individual creator.
