Dive!!

Dive!! was produced by studio Zero-G and released in 2017 as a television anime adaptation of the youth sports novel series written by Eto Mori. The story centers on the Mizuki Diving Club, a local team struggling to survive due to poor management and financial difficulty until a new coach arrives with an ultimatum: either produce an Olympic diver within a year or the club will be shut down permanently. This narrative framework served as a character-driven exploration of dedication, personal growth, and the rigorous mental and physical demands of high-level competitive diving.

The character designs for the series were handled by Suzuhito Yasuda, known for his distinct, expressive aesthetic in light novel illustration and manga. His contribution to the project was intended to capture the dynamic tension and athletic intensity of the divers while balancing the emotional vulnerability of the teenage protagonists. Upon its broadcast, the series was received as a grounded addition to the sports genre, noted for its emphasis on the technical aspects of diving and the interpersonal dynamics of the team over more traditional tropes of competitive triumph.
