Dorohedoro: Ma no Omake

Dorohedoro: Ma no Omake, also known as the Devil's Sales OVA, was released in 2020 as a companion to the MAPPA-produced anime adaptation of Q Hayashida's surreal manga series. This collection of six short episodes was designed to capture the idiosyncratic, dark comedy that defines the series' world, focusing on the everyday lives of the characters in the Hole and Sorcerer's world rather than the main narrative arc. Produced shortly after the broadcast of the 12-episode television series, the shorts function as a tonal bridge, preserving the grimy, textured aesthetic that MAPPA meticulously crafted to reflect Hayashida's gritty art style.

The animation direction for these shorts remained consistent with the series, utilizing a blend of 2D character designs and 3D CGI elements to maintain the unique visual identity established by director Yuichiro Hayashi. The production aimed to lean into the 'devilish' charm of the side stories, which were originally featured in the manga volumes as bonus chapters. By animating these niche vignettes, the studio sought to reward long-time fans with deeper character moments that were otherwise bypassed by the constraints of a standard television season.
