Where it came from
Doushitemo Eto ni Hairitai, known in English as I Want to Join the Zodiac, was produced by Studio Mausu and released in 2015 as a short-form anime television series. The project centers on the lighthearted competition between animals seeking to join the traditional twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac, reflecting the common fascination in Japanese pop culture with animal folklore and personality-based horoscopes.
The production utilized a simplified, charming aesthetic typical of micro-series intended for interstitial broadcast segments. By focusing on humorous character dynamics and the inherent absurdity of the animals' efforts to earn a place in the zodiac, the creative team aimed to provide lighthearted entertainment that complements the broader landscape of short-format animation found in mid-2010s Japanese television.
