Where it came from
Dousou Kai again, released in 2002, is an adult-oriented original video animation produced by the studio ARMS. The project serves as a continuation within the broader Dousou Kai franchise, which explores themes of past relationships and nostalgia through a mature lens. These titles were part of the prolific direct-to-video market in early 2000s Japan, a period characterized by studios focusing on specific niche genres to cater to dedicated consumer demographics.
The production relies on the house style of ARMS during that era, prioritizing character-centric narratives typical of the visual novel adaptations that dominated the market at the time. By 2002, the studio had established a routine of producing short, serialized volumes to maintain audience engagement. While the animation techniques reflect the industry standards for limited-budget OVA releases of the period, the series gained recognition among enthusiasts of the genre for its thematic consistency and the specific visual direction provided by the creative team.
