Dou Po Cangqiong: Yuanqi

Dou Po Cangqiong: Yuanqi, also known as Battle Through the Heavens: Origins, was released as a special ONA series by Motion Magic. It serves as a narrative bridge and high-fidelity reimagining of the early chapters of the long-running Battle Through the Heavens xianxia franchise, originally based on the web novel by Tiancan Tudou. The production was commissioned to revitalize the introduction of the protagonist Xiao Yan, addressing pacing concerns and visual limitations present in the initial 2017 adaptation by presenting the story with the studio's updated, modern animation standards.

The design and aesthetic direction for Yuanqi were centered on elevating the martial arts choreography and character modeling to be more expressive and fluid. Motion Magic utilized advanced motion capture and improved rendering pipelines to create a more cinematic experience that aligns with the visual evolution of the later seasons of the franchise. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the series for its technical polish and its role in re-establishing the foundational emotional stakes of the source material.
