Letty is having a monster of a bad day. He can’t fly, breathe fire, and was just kicked out of his family’s lair. Hapless and homeless, this beast needs new digs, but where to start? Enter Dearia, the Demon Lord of Real Estate, making buyers’ dreams come true. Alas, that unique fixer-upper listing shown was infested with a horde of undead squatters—and no fireplace. Where it came from
Dragon Goes House-Hunting, or Dragon, Ie wo Kau, began as a manga series written by Kawo Tanuki and illustrated by Choco Aya before being adapted into a television anime by studio Signal.MD in 2021. The series was produced during a period of experimentation within the fantasy genre, specifically shifting focus from traditional high-stakes heroics to the mundane, domestic struggle of a dragon trying to secure affordable, safe housing in a world populated by adventurers.
The animation studio aimed to capture the comedic tone and expressive character designs of the original manga, emphasizing the contrast between the protagonist's terrifying appearance and his timid, relatable personality. Upon its release, the series was noted by viewers and critics for its lighthearted subversion of tabletop role-playing tropes, offering a whimsical take on the trials of real estate and urban planning in a magical setting.
