Where it came from
Durarara!! X2 The Third Arc: DuFuFuFu!! was produced by Studio Shuka and released in 2016 as a direct-to-video original animation. It serves as a lighthearted bonus episode concluding the adaptation of the popular light novel series by Ryohgo Narita, which is set in the chaotic, supernatural-tinged district of Ikebukuro. The narrative was designed to offer a whimsical departure from the high-stakes tension of the main arcs, focusing on comedic scenarios involving the ensemble cast.
The animation reflects the distinctive visual style established by Shuka for the second season, emphasizing sharp character designs and the energetic, urban aesthetic synonymous with the franchise. As a project intended for dedicated fans, it was received as a gentle epilogue, prioritizing character-driven humor over complex plot progression. The production maintains the signature frantic pacing and interwoven perspectives that define the Durarara!! brand.
