EAT-MAN The Over Order

EAT-MAN The Over Order was released in 1998 as a 12-episode television sequel to the original anime adaptation of Akihito Yoshitomi’s long-running manga series. Produced by Studio DEEN, this second installment continued the adventures of Bolt Crank, a mercenary with the unusual ability to eat inanimate objects and materialize them from his right hand. The production aimed to lean further into the episodic, surreal nature of the source material, maintaining the gritty, post-apocalyptic aesthetic that defined the series' early atmosphere.

The character design and overall visual direction remained tethered to the unique mechanical stylings of the original manga, which often prioritized the heavy, industrial texture of the objects Crank consumed. While the series struggled to replicate the widespread commercial impact of higher-profile action titles of the late nineties, it secured a dedicated cult following among fans of seinen manga adaptations. It is remembered today as a quintessential example of late-90s atmospheric storytelling, noted for its melancholic tone and singular premise.
