Where it came from
Ebiten: Ebisugawa's Public High School Temonbu, an original net animation series, was produced by Studio AIC and released in 2012. The project was adapted from the manga series by Kagura Kurosawa and Suu Itsubu, centered on the eccentric activities of a high school club dedicated to the study of classic anime and manga tropes, serving as a lighthearted commentary on otaku culture.
Directed by Atsushi Matsumura, the series was designed to lean into the self-referential humor common in mid-2010s anime production. It reflects the era's focus on short-form digital releases designed for niche streaming audiences. Critical reception at the time highlighted its fast-paced delivery and affectionate parody of anime cliches, though it remains a relatively deep-cut selection within the broader AIC library.
