Centuries ago, the land of China was full of magical spirits. Those who could utilize the power of spirits were called Exorcists. Their duty was to prevent the Great Diablo, a demon that shows up once every millennium, from plaguing the world. In the Han Dynasty, however, in a catastrophe known as The Oblivion, all magical spirits vanished overnight. Having lost their powers, Exorcists became a thing of the past.
Later, during the incessant war between the Qin and Jin Kingdoms, the resentful spirits of those who died in vain became the nutrients triggering the revival of the Great Diablo. In order to stop the demon, Chen Xing, the last surviving Exorcist, starts a journey with "Lamp of the Heart", a magical artifact that lives in his soul. He is to travel to Xiangyang City to find Xiangshu, who is destined to join him and defeat the demon.

Where it came from
Epic of Divinity Light, often referred to as 'Sheng Guang Ji,' is a Chinese original net animation produced by Foch Film Culture Investment. Released in the early 2010s, it emerged during a period of significant growth for the Chinese animation industry, which was increasingly seeking to adapt domestic web novels and fantasy literature into visual formats. The series was designed to showcase the technical capabilities of Chinese 3D animation studios, drawing heavily from high-fantasy aesthetic tropes popular in regional gaming and literature at the time.
The production utilized stylized 3D character modeling and ambitious environmental design, aiming to replicate the scale and narrative complexity of epic fantasy sagas. While it served as a notable attempt to push the boundaries of domestic production quality, the series received a mixed reception from viewers and critics. Audiences often noted the disparity between the project's visual ambition and the constraints of the episodic release format, making it a definitive example of the experimental phase in China's modern animation history.
