14 years after third impact, Ikari Shinji awakens to a world he does not remember. He hasn't aged. Much of Earth is laid in ruins, Nerv has been dismantled, and people who he once protected have turned against him. Befriending the enigmatic Nagisa Kaworu, Shinji continues the fight against the angels and realizes the fighting is far from over, even when it could be against his former allies. The characters' struggles continue amidst the battles against the angels and each other, spiraling down to what could inevitably be the end of the world.

Where it came from
Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo was released in 2012 as the third installment in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, a reimagining of the classic 1990s anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Produced by Studio Khara and directed by Hideaki Anno, the film was designed to radically diverge from the original television series' narrative. Anno aimed to subvert the expectations of long-term fans by introducing a significant time skip and a drastically altered world state, shifting the focus from the internal psychological struggles of the characters toward a more cryptic and desolate post-apocalyptic landscape.
The production process was characterized by a heavy reliance on a blend of traditional hand-drawn animation and complex 3D CGI to visualize the film's abstract mecha battles and surreal environments. Upon its release, the film was met with intense critical discourse; while praised for its bold visual direction and technical ambition, it was also polarizing due to its deliberately opaque storytelling and the alienation of its protagonist. It remains a pivotal entry in the series, serving as the bridge between the familiar tropes of the early Rebuild films and the finality of the eventual conclusion.
