Exit my room

Exit My Room is a notable short animation produced by students at the Tokyo University of the Arts, commonly referred to as Geidai. Created as part of the rigorous animation curriculum at the university’s Graduate School of Film and New Media, the film serves as a showcase for the technical proficiency and experimental narrative approaches encouraged within the program. It reflects the institution’s focus on fostering independent, auteur-driven storytelling that often challenges traditional commercial conventions.

The film’s design and visual language are characteristic of the aesthetic diversity found in the Geidai Animation archives. It utilizes distinctive character animation techniques to explore themes of isolation and transition within a confined domestic setting. Like many works emerging from the studio, the film was conceived as an academic project aimed at mastering pacing and spatial economy, eventually gaining recognition through its inclusion in international festival circuits and regional showcases focused on emerging Japanese animators.
