She's an archeologist AND a black belt and Ray Kazuki will need her brains and her brawn as she plunges into a thrill-filled adventure. Ray's examining an exciting new archeological discovery: a legendary temple located in an isolated area of the world.
As always, she has with her a strange mirror that belonged to her father; a mirror that may provide access to a vanished civilization. On the excavation, Ray meets Mai and Mami Tachibana, freewheeling pubescent girls who heedlessly court danger. And danger they find, in the form of Rig Veda.
Veda's after a big prize: Ray's mirror. But she will have to stop him at all costs, because if Veda gets his hands on the powerful object, he will possess secrets that could lead to disaster.

Where it came from
Explorer-Woman Ray was produced by AIC in 1989 as a two-part original video animation (OVA). Emerging during the peak of the 1980s direct-to-video boom in Japan, the series served as a lighthearted homage to the pulp adventure serials of the early 20th century. It followed the tone of contemporary anime works that sought to combine supernatural horror with classic exploration tropes, drawing heavily from the aesthetic traditions of western adventure films while maintaining a distinctly Japanese animation style.
The production utilized a vibrant, high-energy visual language typical of late eighties AIC projects, focusing on dynamic action sequences and character-driven stakes. While it occupies a niche space in the studio's portfolio, the series is remembered by enthusiasts for its commitment to the adventure-thriller genre and its straightforward, episodic storytelling approach, which was crafted to appeal to viewers seeking rapid-paced escapism in a home-video format.
