A man who was looking for the shortest thing in Tokyo uttered the word "da" at the last moment of his life. This work, produced as the first installment of the ``Bungaku Bideo'' collaboration project between contemporary Japanese literature and animation, is a recitation of "Totemo mijikai," an original work by Hideo Furukawa, by the author himself, and Koji Yamamura handled the animation.

Where it came from
Extremely Short, released in 2001, is a prominent work by the Japanese independent animator Koji Yamamura. It was created during a period where Yamamura was gaining international recognition for his unique, hand-drawn aesthetic that often explores the complexities of human emotion through surreal or minimalist visual storytelling. The film reflects the studio's commitment to the tradition of independent animation, prioritizing auteur-driven artistic expression over commercial trends.
The film is celebrated for its distinctive visual style, characterized by fluid, expressive line work and a contemplative atmosphere. Yamamura, who both directed and animated the piece, sought to capture a sense of fleeting time and existential weight, utilizing limited animation techniques to focus the viewer's attention on subtle movements and composition. It was received as a masterful example of short-form animation, eventually earning critical praise for its ability to convey profound narratives within a brief duration.
