2150 AD. The battle against the silicon-based Festums from outer space reaches a new phase. Fragments of the North Pole Mir were scattered throughout the world. Eventually, they began to act on their own as independent Mirs. Most hated humanity and attacked them, but some chose to coexist with mankind. Some with the same way of thinking existed within the human race, as well: those who were both human and Festum. They added to the chaos of the battle and brought about even more hatred.

Where it came from
Fafner Exodus serves as the direct sequel to the 2004 science fiction series Fafner in the Azure. Produced by studio Xebec and released in 2015, the series was created to expand upon the complex narrative established in the original show, focusing on a world ravaged by hostile silicon-based lifeforms known as the Festum. The production sought to maintain the series' reputation for psychological depth and heavy themes, exploring the burden of conflict on the younger generation of pilots.
The design and aesthetic direction were heavily influenced by the show’s long-standing creative team, who aimed to modernize the visual identity of the Fafner mecha while preserving the somber, introspective tone established over a decade prior. Upon release, the series was received by fans of the franchise as a significant evolution of the lore, particularly noted for its intricate plot developments and the refinement of its character-focused storytelling, solidifying its place within the broader Fafner legacy.
