Fantastic Detective Labyrinth

Fantastic Detective Labyrinth, known in Japan as Labyrinth of the Gifted, was produced by Studio DEEN and aired in 2007. The series is based on the light novel sequence written by Mitsuhiro Takizawa and illustrated by Miyuki Miyabe. It emerged during a period of significant popularity for mystery-themed anime, centered around the life of Mayuki Hyuga, a young detective with a unique ability to solve complex crimes through his intuition and investigative skills within a fictional city constructed by his family.

The character design and visual direction for the adaptation aimed to blend traditional mystery tropes with a distinct, polished aesthetic characteristic of Studio DEEN’s mid-2000s output. While the series attempted to establish a niche within the detective genre, it received a modest critical reception, often noted for its unconventional premise and the atmospheric portrayal of its titular labyrinthine setting. It remains a representative example of how light novel source material was frequently translated into televised animation during this creative era.
