Where it came from
The Fate/strange Fake television commercial was produced by A-1 Pictures and released in 2014 to promote the light novel series written by Ryohgo Narita. The project was conceived as a high-fidelity animated teaser to showcase the characters and atmosphere of the Holy Grail War set in the American city of Snowfield, effectively bridging the gap between the static prose of the novels and the visual expectations of the Fate franchise fanbase.
Directed and storyboarded by Shunsuke Nakashige, the short was designed to highlight the intense action and distinct character designs popularized by illustrator Shizuki Morii. Its reception was overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising the fluid animation and the inclusion of original servant classes, which served to successfully generate significant anticipation for the subsequent expansion of the Fate/strange Fake universe.
