Field ni Soyogu Kaze

Field ni Soyogu Kaze, also known as A Breeze Swaying in the Field, was produced by Toei Animation and released as a promotional original video animation in 1997. It serves as a short companion piece to the Digimon franchise, emerging during the foundational period of the property’s expansion into multimedia. The animation was created to showcase the aesthetic direction of the early Digimon concept, centering on the bond between human partners and their digital companions before the release of the expansive television series.

The production leans into the lush, pastoral visual style typical of late 1990s Toei projects, prioritizing character chemistry and a contemplative atmosphere. While it was intended as a standalone supplement to the Digimon virtual pet craze, the short is often recognized by collectors for its rare glimpse into the preliminary character designs. It received a modest but focused reception within the animation community, valued today primarily for its role as a precursor to the global Digimon phenomenon that would follow shortly thereafter.
