Where it came from
Final Fantasy VII: Last Order was produced in 2005 by the animation studio MADHOUSE as an original video animation included with the Ultimate Edition of the Advent Children film. The project was intended to provide a concise retelling of the Nibelheim incident, a pivotal event in the broader Final Fantasy VII narrative, allowing fans to revisit the origins of Cloud Strife and Sephiroth through a distinct stylistic lens.
The animation was directed by Morio Asaka, who sought to translate the high-stakes drama of the game's backstory into a traditional anime format. While the OVA is well-regarded for its technical execution and fluid action sequences characteristic of the MADHOUSE studio, it remains a subject of ongoing discussion among fans due to certain narrative departures from the established game canon, marking it as a unique curio within the franchise's expansive history.
