Where it came from
Fluximation refers to a series of short, animated interstitial segments produced by the Japanese talent agency Horipro. Emerging in the mid-2000s, these clips were designed as a creative outlet for various Japanese illustrators and artists to experiment with non-traditional animation techniques, often characterized by a minimalist or abstract aesthetic that stood in contrast to standard broadcast anime.
The project provided a platform for creators to showcase stylized visual narratives within short timeframes, typically airing during late-night programming blocks. While the individual segments varied widely in style and artistic intent depending on the commissioned illustrator, the collection is noted for its role in bridging the gap between independent motion art and mainstream Japanese broadcast media.
