Galactic Pirates

Galactic Pirates was released in 1990 as an original video animation (OVA) produced by Kitty Film, a studio well-known for its involvement in high-profile animation projects during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The production emerged during the peak of the OVA market, a period when studios were increasingly experimenting with self-contained, medium-length science fiction narratives that could explore mature or niche themes outside the constraints of television scheduling.

The project was crafted to capture the aesthetic sensibilities of space opera and adventure genres prevalent in that era. As a product of Kitty Film, the title reflects the studio’s signature approach to character animation and atmospheric world-building. While it remains a niche entry in the landscape of early 90s animation, it is remembered by enthusiasts of the format as a characteristic example of the period's commitment to cel-based artistic detail and ambitious, albeit contained, storytelling.
