This movie is an alternative version of the TV series; it is composed of the two 2007 OVAs, edited to improve the pacing of the plot, and an extra segment akin to a TV episode where the cast are given the task of studying flowers.
The plot has several differences to the TV series, most important being Sirius's death at the beginning, Apollo's different childhood and the more marked focus on the events of 12000 years ago, particularly Apollonius' death and Reika's previous incarnation's involvement.

Where it came from
Gekijouban Aquarion, released in 2007 by studio Satelight, serves as a cinematic retelling of the 2005 television series Genesis of Aquarion. Directed by Shoji Kawamori, the film was designed to recontextualize the original narrative, condensing the series' complex mythology into a focused feature-length experience. The production utilized a mix of traditional animation and the digital mecha modeling that defined the studio's early aesthetic, aiming to heighten the emotional resonance of the protagonist's journey.
The film's reception was largely driven by its departure from the episodic structure of the television series. Kawamori intended for the movie to stand as a distinct artistic statement, emphasizing the thematic link between the pilots and their machines. Critics and fans noted that while the condensed plot presented challenges for viewers unfamiliar with the lore, the technical execution and the refined character dynamics solidified its place as a significant entry in the Aquarion franchise.
