Gekijouban Banana no Kawa de Subette Korobu Usagi

Gekijouban Banana no Kawa de Subette Korobu Usagi, which translates to The Movie: The Rabbit Who Slipped on a Banana Peel, is a short-form animated project produced by students and affiliates at the Tokyo University of the Arts, known as Geidai. It emerged from the university’s renowned animation department, a program celebrated for fostering experimental narrative techniques and distinct visual styles that often sit outside the mainstream commercial industry.

The film leans into the absurdity and slapstick traditions of early hand-drawn animation, utilizing the classic visual gag of a banana peel slip to explore timing and physical comedy. It was designed to showcase the expressive capabilities of its creators, prioritizing character fluidity and whimsical framing to distinguish the work from the high-production aesthetic typical of contemporary theatrical anime.
