Where it came from
Geobreeders: Breakthrough is a 2000 original video animation produced by Chaos Project, serving as a direct sequel to the 1998 Geobreeders series. The narrative continues the adventures of the Kagura Reconnaissance Security Services, a private agency specializing in the containment and neutralisation of 'phantom cats'—supernatural entities that infiltrate modern urban environments. This installment maintains the franchise's signature blend of high-octane action, tactical firearms, and occult mystery, which built upon the original manga series created by Akihiro Ito.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of late 90s and early 2000s Japanese action OVAs, prioritizing fast-paced combat sequences and a distinct industrial urban atmosphere. Designed to cater to fans of the original manga and the previous animation run, the project sought to refine the character models and visual effects of its predecessor. Upon its release, it was received as a functional and stylistic conclusion to the animated saga, appreciated by genre enthusiasts for its commitment to the tactical-supernatural premise established by Ito’s source material.
