Where it came from
Giant Beasts of Ars debuted in 2023 as an original television anime series produced by Asahi Production. The project was conceived as an high-fantasy adventure set in a world defined by the presence of colossal, god-like creatures known as Beasts, which have shaped the planet's topography and history. The narrative focuses on the intersection of human struggle and mythical biology, exploring themes of exploitation, survival, and the weight of ancient legacies within an expansive, world-building-heavy framework.
The series was directed by Akira Iwanaga, who aimed to emphasize the scale and wonder of the environment through a blend of traditional animation and modern digital techniques. Character designs were provided by Hiroshi Shimizu and Masato Kato, who drew inspiration from classic adventuring tropes to ground the fantastical premise in relatable character dynamics. Upon release, the show was noted for its ambitious visual scale, though it remains a niche entry within the broader landscape of modern fantasy anime.
