Austral Island is located 2,000 km south from Samoa islands. The existence of the island was removed from the official records, and Tagami Yu made a journey to search for the reason.
He sailed for the island with Dr. Waive who was his father's friend, Doris who is the daughter of Dr. Waive, and Captain who is the friend of Dr. Waive. On their way to the island, GAIL, the international conglomerate, and gangster, Cougar Connection lead by Lady Lynx attacked them.
They managed to arrive at the island, but suddenly a mysterious monster began to attack them. When they became ready for death, a blue giant robot appeared. It destroyed the monster and saved them. Although it was an existence far beyond human knowledge, it reminded Yu of something warm and familiar.
It was Giant Gorg which is called "Messenger of the God" by the inhabitants of the island. Escaping from the attack of GAIL's assault team, Gorg guided Yu into the underworld. There, he found alien's relic and an alien who woke up after 30,000 years' sleep.

Where it came from
Giant Gorg was produced by Sunrise in 1984 as a unique departure from the studio's traditional super robot genre. Created by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, who served as both director and character designer, the series was conceived as a grounded, adventurous narrative centered on the mysterious Austral Island rather than a typical mecha-heavy commercial project. Yasuhiko aimed to blend character-driven drama with the spectacle of a massive robot, prioritizing atmosphere and mystery over the common trend of rapid toy-driven upgrades.
The series is often remembered for its sophisticated cel animation and the unconventional design of the titular Gorg, which eschewed transforming gimmicks for a sturdy, primal aesthetic. While it struggled to find a massive commercial audience during its original broadcast run compared to its contemporaries, it eventually gained a reputation as a cult classic. Critics and fans frequently cite the production as a high-water mark for mid-1980s television animation, particularly for its cohesive visual storytelling and the creative vision of Yasuhiko.
