The series features colorful stop-motion mascot characters made out of pipe cleaners. In Japanese, "aiseki" refers to the situation of sharing a table at a restaurant with a person you don't know. The show is surreal datsuryoku-kei comedy with a variety of male guest voice actors who banter with Fuyumi and Haruko at a table in the Mogol Cafe.

Where it came from
Glitzy Dolls Go Dating was released in 2017 by the independent studio Strawberry Meets Pictures. As a quirky entry in the digital-era web series format, the show leaned into a distinct aesthetic of stylized, doll-like characters to explore themes of modern romance. It emerged during a period when niche animation studios were increasingly utilizing social media platforms to distribute short-form content that subverted traditional tropes of reality television and dating shows.
The series is noted for its saturated color palette and minimal, illustrative design style, which prioritizes expressive character silhouettes over complex animation. Created to capture the erratic and often humorous nature of contemporary dating, the show utilized a minimalist visual language to mirror the superficiality of its subject matter. Upon its release, it found a specific audience among fans of experimental animation and internet subcultures who appreciated its ironic tone and unconventional production approach.
