Where it came from
Golden Courtyard: New Year Wishes in Winter was released in early 2021 as a celebratory web animation for the video game Genshin Impact. Produced by the game's developer, miHoYo, the short was designed to connect with the player base during the Lunar New Year period, bridging the gap between digital interaction and traditional cultural festivities through a cozy, domestic lens.
The animation focuses on the 'chibi' aesthetic, a stylistic choice intended to emphasize warmth and character camaraderie rather than the high-fantasy combat typical of the source material. By placing the game's protagonists in a domestic setting, the design team aimed to foster a sense of intimacy and nostalgia. It was well-received by the community for its gentle pacing and attention to character-specific quirks, reinforcing the franchise's emphasis on world-building and character dynamics.
