At the expense of the people and things around her, Sakura has absorbed so much "happiness energy" that she has caused an energy imbalance in the world. In order to return balance to the world, the Poverty God, Momiji, sets out to take away Sakura's ability to absorb this energy. Will Momiji be able to put a stop to Sakura's absorbing abilities, or will the God succumb to her happiness?

Where it came from
Good Luck Girl!, known in Japan as Binbougami ga!, was produced by studio Sunrise and aired in 2012 as an adaptation of the manga series by Yoshiaki Sukeno. The series is a parody-heavy comedy centered on the rivalry between Ichiko Sakura, a high school girl with excessive fortune, and Momiji, a poverty god sent to siphon her luck. By placing a supernatural narrative within a school setting, the show relies on a frantic, self-referential humor style that was characteristic of the early 2010s anime landscape.
The production sought to balance high-energy slapstick with moments of unexpected sincerity, often utilizing visual gags and rapid-fire references to other pop culture staples. While the direction by Yoichi Fujita maintained a distinct comedic rhythm, the series was received primarily as a niche cult title. It is frequently noted for its willingness to subvert traditional shonen tropes, earning a modest but loyal following among fans of irreverent, character-driven comedy.
