Grand Blue Dreaming

Grand Blue Dreaming is a 2018 anime television series adapted from the manga by Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka. Produced by studio Zero-G, the series was designed to translate the high-energy, slapstick, and often absurd humor of the original source material into animation, focusing on the chaotic daily lives of members of a university diving club. The director, Shinji Takamatsu, is known for his work in comedy, which informed the show's brisk pacing and its commitment to exaggerated character expressions.

The series centers on Iori Kitahara, who moves to a coastal town and finds himself swept into the heavy drinking and hedonistic lifestyle of the Peek-a-Boo Diving Club. Upon its release, the show was noted for its distinct contrast between the breathtaking, serene visual depictions of the ocean and the frantic, frequently alcohol-fueled comedic antics of the main cast. It received a generally positive reception from fans of the seinen comedy genre, who appreciated the animation studio's ability to capture the specific irreverent tone established in the manga.
