Haiyore! Nyaruko-san: Yasashii Teki no Shitome-kata

Released in 2012 by Studio Xebec, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san: Yasashii Teki no Shitome-kata serves as an original video animation (OVA) prequel to the main television anime adaptation of Manta Aisora's light novel series. The production was conceived to bridge the narrative gap and introduce viewers to the frenetic, Lovecraftian-inspired comedy that defines the franchise. The visual direction maintains the studio's signature high-energy aesthetic, focusing on rapid-fire cultural references and slapstick interactions between the Cthulhu-mythos-inspired characters and their human protagonist.

The character designs were handled by Masaru Koseki, who aimed to translate the light novels' distinct blend of horror archetypes and moe character tropes into a cohesive animation style. The OVA was received as a lighthearted expansion of the source material, capturing the fan base's interest through its intentional absurdity and parody-heavy dialogue. It remains a hallmark of the early 2010s trend of adapting eccentric, subculture-heavy light novels for a dedicated otaku audience.
