Where it came from
Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East Season 2 was produced by Studio Deen and released in 2013, continuing the narrative adaptation of the manga series by Miyuki Abe. The series follows the supernatural journey of Shino Inuzuka and the search for the eight beads, set against a backdrop of feudal fantasy and dark mystery. As a direct sequel to the first season, it focuses on expanding the lore of the Imperial Capital and the deeper connections between the characters.
The animation direction maintains the gothic-inflected aesthetic established in the source material, emphasizing moody character designs and complex interpersonal dynamics. While the series received moderate attention for its visual fidelity and focus on character bonds, its production under the Bandai Visual label was largely targeted at established fans of the manga franchise looking for a continuation of the overarching mystical saga.
