The continuation of Hakuoki.
The Edo Era has ended after 260 years of history and the Meiji Era begins. However, bitter strife still continues between the soldiers of the new government and former Tokugawa retainers. This is the stage in which the surviving members of the Shinsengumi find themselves upon their return to Edo following their defeat at Tobafushimi.

Where it came from
Hakuoki: Record of the Jade Blood was produced by Studio DEEN as the second season of the Hakuoki anime series, airing in 2010. It serves as a direct continuation of the first season, adapting the latter portion of the visual novel developed by Idea Factory. The narrative focuses on the Shinsengumi during the turbulent transition of the Bakumatsu period, blending historical events with supernatural elements as the characters navigate the introduction of the Water of Life.
The character designs were overseen by Atsuko Nakajima, who adapted the original artwork by Kazuki Yone. The production aimed to maintain the series' signature aesthetic, which emphasizes the contrast between the rigid discipline of the Shinsengumi and the dark, ethereal nature of the Rasetsu. Upon its release, the series was well-received by fans of the otome genre, praised for its emotional weight and its stylistic commitment to the source material's romanticized version of historical Japan.
