Where it came from
Happiness! was produced by Studio Artland and aired in 2006, emerging during a period when the romantic comedy and school-life genres were staples of late-night television programming in Japan. The series was adapted from an adult visual novel developed by Windmill, a studio known for its stylized character designs and focus on supernatural elements integrated into traditional academy settings.
The anime adaptation aimed to translate the branching narrative of the source material into a linear television format, focusing on the character-driven interactions between students and the series' resident witch, Anri Hiiragi. While the show captured the aesthetic trends of the mid-2000s, it received a modest critical reception, often cited by enthusiasts of the era for its familiar tropes and contribution to the visual novel-to-anime pipeline common to the studio's portfolio at the time.
