In a violent post-apocalyptic Japan, a reckless juvenile delinquent named Haruwo takes on the Yakuza, but their new bouncer may be more than he can handle...
Over a year in the making, this half-hour short was entirely the work of one person--even the music! "Haruwo" animator Shao Guee writes, "I didn't make this film for money, just for fun. I hope people all over the world will have a chance to see it. If you like it, please tell your friends about it. That's all I want. My thanks to everyone who helped me make this project a reality."

Where it came from
Haruwo was produced by CoMix Wave Films in 2008 as a short-form original video animation. It emerged during a period when the studio was gaining significant traction for its commitment to high-quality digital animation and its collaborative relationship with director Makoto Shinkai, reflecting the studio's early dedication to fostering distinct, standalone aesthetic experiences outside of feature-length commercial cinema.
The project is characterized by the studio's hallmark focus on atmospheric lighting and evocative, mundane settings. While it remains a lesser-known title within their expansive catalog, the design reflects the refined post-production techniques that would eventually define the studio’s global reputation. It was received by fans primarily as an experimental piece, showcasing the technical precision that CoMix Wave brought to short-format storytelling.
