Where it came from
Haru to Gen: 70-sai, Hajimete Kosodate was produced by Imageworks Studio and released in 2027 as a poignant entry in the slice-of-life television genre. The series explores the unconventional emotional landscape of an elderly protagonist navigating the challenges of raising a child late in life, a narrative choice that reflects a broader cultural focus on Japan's aging demographic and the evolution of modern family structures.
The production team behind Imageworks Studio aimed for a grounded, intimate visual aesthetic, prioritizing character-driven storytelling over high-action animation sequences. Upon its release, the series was received with appreciation for its quiet sincerity and its departure from typical coming-of-age tropes, positioning it as a thoughtful reflection on generational connections and the responsibilities of caregiving.
