Where it came from
Haru no Niji no Soushiki, released in 2016, is a short original net animation that serves as a promotional collaboration between the artist Q-rais and the Japanese telecommunications company NTT Docomo. Produced as part of a campaign to highlight the brand's 'd Anime Store' streaming service, the piece is characteristic of Q-rais's whimsical and often melancholic artistic style, which frequently utilizes animal characters to explore gentle, emotional narratives.
The animation focuses on a surreal, reflective theme centered around a funeral for a rainbow, utilizing a minimalist aesthetic and a meditative pace to capture the fleeting nature of beauty. Designed to stand out in the crowded digital marketing landscape of mid-2010s Japan, the work was received by audiences as a refreshing, artistic departure from standard commercial advertisements, earning praise for its emotional resonance and distinct hand-drawn visual quality.
