Where it came from
Heikousen, or Parallel Lines, is a short animated work produced by the Japanese studio 10GAUGE, known for its expertise in motion graphics and high-fidelity visual storytelling. It was created as a promotional project for the Lotte commercial campaign, utilizing a unique aesthetic that blends traditional hand-drawn sensibilities with the studio's signature clean, digital precision to emphasize themes of connection and duality.
The animation was directed by Rie Matsumoto, a visionary creator noted for her distinctively kinetic and rhythmic visual language. In Heikousen, she aimed to evoke a sense of melancholy and romantic yearning, employing a sophisticated color palette and deliberate character blocking to illustrate two lives running parallel yet eventually intersecting. Upon its release, the piece was lauded by critics and enthusiasts alike for its technical fluidity and its ability to condense a complex, emotional narrative into a brief, evocative duration.
