Where it came from
Hellsing: The Dawn serves as a prequel to the primary Hellsing narrative, detailing the early experiences of Alucard and Walter C. Dornez during the Second World War. Originally serialized by Kouta Hirano in Young King OURs starting in 2001, the manga was adapted into a series of short anime episodes released between 2011 and 2012 as bonus material bundled with the later volumes of the Hellsing Ultimate original video animation series.
Produced by Graphinica and licensed for North American distribution by Funimation, these episodes were designed to provide stylistic continuity with the Hellsing Ultimate aesthetic. The production was overseen to capture Hirano’s signature blend of dark humor and hyper-violent gothic action, serving as a rare supplemental expansion to the lore that remains distinct from the main Hellsing timeline due to its unfinished status in the original manga.
