Three girls meet for the first time at the start of a new semester in a brand new school. But these aren’t just any girls, and this isn’t just any school! Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Mega Drive might be the names of SEGA gaming consoles, but at Sehagaga Academy, they’re also three girls destined for greatness! Or at least a nostalgia trip. Wacky hijinks ensue when the girls are tested not on their math and science skills, but on their ability to complete challenges inside (literally!) classic SEGA video games. Can they fight their way through the blocky polygons of Virtua Fighter? Can their dance moves get them high enough ratings in Space Channel 5? And that isn’t all! More challenges await on the road to gaining 100 medals in order to graduate, but the Sega Hard Girls won’t let something like absurdity keep them down!

Where it came from
Hi-sCool! Seha Girls was released in 2014 as a collaborative effort between Sega and ASCII Media Works to celebrate the company's hardware legacy. Produced by TMS Entertainment, the series anthropomorphizes iconic Sega consoles like the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Mega Drive as high school students navigating a school-themed simulation to collect medals. The project was intended to revitalize interest in Sega's historical catalog through a quirky, lighthearted anime format that emphasized the distinct personalities of the machines they represented.
The character designs were handled by Kei, who sought to capture the aesthetic spirit of the consoles while translating them into a moe-inspired anime style. The series was experimental in its use of 3D computer-generated imagery, a choice that sought to mirror the evolution of game graphics. Upon its release, the show was received primarily as a niche curiosity, appreciated by dedicated Sega enthusiasts for its meta-commentary and frequent references to deep-cut gaming history, though it remained a cult title rather than a mainstream success.
