Yuu Shinozaki is fed up with living according to the clock, the clock that always turns right. His liberal thinking gets him in bad terms with his parents, teachers and childhood friend Aoi, with only his biker sister Moe to understand him. One day, after an exceptionally upsetting day at school, Yuu jumps on his motorbike and - with some help from Moe's friend Tetsuo - leaves home to have a taste of a different way of life, like making the clock turn left for a change.

Where it came from
Hidari no O'Clock!! was released in 1990 as an original video animation (OVA) produced by Toei Animation during a period of experimentation for the studio. The project was conceived as a lighthearted, stylistic venture that showcased the artistic flexibility of Toei's animation staff outside of their more prominent long-running television series. It represents the broader late-80s and early-90s boom in the OVA market, where studios utilized the direct-to-video format to explore niche narratives and visual aesthetics that were less constrained by the commercial requirements of broadcast television.
The production design reflects the vibrant, colorful aesthetic typical of independent animation projects from that era. Because the title remains a relatively obscure entry in Toei's extensive catalog, information regarding specific primary illustrators or singular creative visionaries is not widely archived in standard industry records. The piece is primarily recognized today as a curio for collectors of experimental anime, serving as a snapshot of the creative freedom afforded to Japanese animators during the final years of the traditional cel-animation era.
