Where it came from
Himitsu Kessha Taka no Tsume, or Eagle Talon, debuted in 2006 as a flash-animated comedy series produced by the independent studio Kaeruotoko Shokai. Created by FROGMAN, the series follows a bungling group of aspiring world conquerors who reside in a run-down apartment in Tokyo. The show emerged from the grassroots digital animation movement in Japan, utilizing a distinct, minimalist aesthetic that prioritized irreverent humor and rapid-fire dialogue over traditional high-budget polish.
The series is celebrated for its satirical take on the classic secret society trope found in tokusatsu and manga. FROGMAN designed the characters with crude, intentionally simple lines to allow for a sustainable production pace that mirrored his early independent work. Upon its release, the show was received with critical acclaim for its self-aware writing and its innovative use of advertising integration, which became a signature element of the franchise's long-term commercial identity.
