Where it came from
Himitsu no AiPri premiered in 2024 as the latest iteration in the long-running Pretty Series franchise, produced through a collaborative effort between OLM and Dongwoo Animation. Designed to revitalize the brand's core concept of fashion-forward idols and rhythm gaming, the series centers on the concept of 'AiPri'—a secret world where students can transform into idols. This installment aims to bridge the gap between traditional broadcast animation and the modern digital ecosystem, reflecting contemporary trends in virtual performance and social connectivity.
The visual direction for the series continues the franchise's tradition of vibrant, high-energy character designs, characterized by elaborate costume transitions and stylized dance sequences. By integrating Dongwoo Animation's expertise in technical production, the series maintains a polished aesthetic that appeals to both established fans of the genre and a younger audience. Upon its release, it was received as a soft reboot of the franchise's underlying mechanics, focusing heavily on the aspirational aspect of celebrity life within a school-based setting.
