Where it came from
Released in 2008 by the animation studio DLE, Himitsukessha Taka no Tsume THE MOVIE II: Watashi wo Aishita Kuro Oolong-Cha is a feature-length installment in the Eagle Talon franchise. The series, created by Frogman, emerged from the burgeoning world of Flash animation in Japan, characterized by a distinctively minimalist, paper-cutout aesthetic that prioritized rapid-fire dialogue and satirical improvisation over fluid movement.
The film serves as a parody of the espionage genre, specifically riffing on classic James Bond tropes through the lens of the bumbling secret society Eagle Talon. By utilizing DLE's signature 'Flash animation' style, the production was able to maintain a quick turnaround and a unique meta-commentary structure that often broke the fourth wall. It was received as a cult success within the Japanese comedy scene for its self-aware humor and subversion of standard anime industry tropes.
