Where it came from
The Hisone to Maso-tan Digest Douga serves as a promotional ONA, or original net animation, released in anticipation of the 2018 television anime series Hisone to Maso-tan. Produced by Studio Bones, the project was created as an original work directed by Shinji Higuchi and written by Mari Okada. The digest was designed to provide viewers with an early glimpse into the series' distinctive premise, which centers on a novice Japan Air Self-Defense Force pilot who is chosen by a dragon hidden within the base.
The design of the animation reflects the signature visual style of the production team, prioritizing expressive character animation and a lighthearted, whimsical aesthetic that contrasts with the technical military setting. Studio Bones opted for a clean, approachable look to establish the show's tone before its full broadcast. Upon release, the digest was well-received by the animation community, serving as an effective tool to build anticipation for the series’ unique blend of fantasy and military realism.
