A secret life is the one thing they have in common. At school, Hori is a prim and perfect social butterfly, but the truth is she's a brash homebody. Meanwhile, under a gloomy facade, Miyamura hides a gentle heart, along with piercings and tattoos. In a chance meeting, they both reveal a side they've never shown. Could this blossom into something new?

Where it came from
Horimiya was produced by Studio CloverWorks and premiered in early 2021, adapting the popular manga series written by HERO and illustrated by Daisuke Hagiwara. The narrative centers on the unexpected relationship between Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, two high school students who discover each other's hidden personas outside of the classroom. This adaptation was highly anticipated by fans of the original manga, as it sought to condense the long-running series into a focused, character-driven seasonal anime.
The animation direction emphasized a grounded, soft aesthetic to mirror the intimate tone of the source material. CloverWorks focused on maintaining the series' balance between comedic slice-of-life moments and genuine emotional vulnerability. Upon its release, the series received widespread acclaim for its art style, pacing, and the chemistry between the protagonists, successfully introducing the story to a broader international audience beyond the established manga readership.
