Where it came from
Horimiya: The Missing Pieces was produced by studio CloverWorks in 2023 to adapt chapters from the original manga by HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara that were omitted from the studio's 2021 adaptation. While the initial series focused on the central romantic narrative of Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, this sequel-style series was created to flesh out the experiences of the supporting cast and highlight essential character moments that occurred during the main timeline of the manga.
The animation direction and character designs maintained the aesthetic established by CloverWorks in the first series, prioritizing a soft, character-driven visual style that reflects the series' slice-of-life tone. The project was well-received by fans of the franchise, serving as a companion piece that provided closure and depth to the broader ensemble, effectively rounding out the Horimiya story by returning to the specific vignettes that were skipped in the initial production run.
